Yesterday, I observed something that left me baffled. I was driving on a busy urban road. It wasn't downtown, so traffic moved around 50 mph (80 kmh). There were three northbound lanes, two southbound, and a northbound turning lane. I was in the turning lane waiting to turn left. There was a shopping center on my right that had an exit with a traffic light. But instead of using that, a woman driving a mini-van decided to use the other exit, close to where I was, to cross four lanes of traffic in order to merge with the southbound lane (am I losing you yet?). She pulls out, immediately stopping a car in the first lane. She inches out a little more, nearly getting her front end torn off by a car coming in the second lane. She's now effectively blocking two lanes of traffic. Mind you, this is traffic that is speeding up so it can make the light while it's still green. At this point, I realize her driver side sliding mini-van door is all the way open. Admittedly, it was 92 degrees and those vehicles do not have adjustable windows in them. But read on... She inches a little more into the third lane, but is now in a dilemma because my lane is waiting for the light to turn green and nobody is moving. It's at that point that I realize that not only is her passenger side sliding door also open, but she has a car full of kids!!!!!! People are slamming on their breaks so they don't hit her. And if they did, forget side curtain airbags!! Your freaking doors are open, lady!! She finally manages to block my lane as well, but then has to inch out into the southbound lane that has no idea she's coming. One car manages to swerve into the other lane to miss her and she miraculously merges into the the lane so that she can then drive faster and further endanger her children's lives. (/rant) Current Mood: irritated Current Music: Why am I not listening to music?!

So I'm at the computer, my usual spot. I need to get some invoices out since it's Friday and I've procrastinated all week. However, I didn't take into account that I had two separate mom obligations, resulting in having one child home for the day instead of preschool. She wants me to be doing anything but sit at my desk. I say, "I'm almost done, hold on a minute. Here, watch TV." She doesn't budge, but instead starts to dance a very familiar dance in front of my desk. I ask suspiciously, "Honey, do you have to go potty?" Her voice is strained when she answers, "No." I nod, although I'm not convinced, "Are you sure? You really look like maybe you have to go." She shakes her head, unable to answer. Now I've been in this situation many times. If I force her, it's an absolute nightmare. So I decide that maybe it's best that she learns how to identify her bodily urges on her own. But I try one last time... "Why don't we go to the potty, just to be sure." She yells, "NO!" and runs off. I sigh, *patience*. Less than two minutes later, I hear the pitter patter of little footsteps racing to the bathroom. The footsteps change to frantic jumping around once she gets there. There's a brief silence, then, "Uh oh. Mommy, can you come here for a second?" *headdesk* So once that's taken care of, I can sit down and finish my invoicing. They're all printed and in their envelopes. One last step before the mailbox... I soon realize my dilemma and growl in mild frustration, "Stamps Are Not Stickers!" Now we're going to go get in the car to get her sister. A customer will call and the two of them will scream the entire time in the back seat. It's only 2:00. Thank God I love my kids.
